The Largest Vocabulary in African American Lit.

Years ago, my younger brother Kenton told me about a project concerning the largest vocabulary in hip-hop. We enjoyed thinking about that subject in rap, and we were also curious about the largest vocabulary in African American literature. So we got to work.

Kenton and I took a look at forty different novels by twenty-three authors. Pauline Hopkins, Charles Chesnutt, Zora Neale Hurston, Octavia Butler, Ralph Ellison, Jesmyn Ward, and many more, including, of course, Toni Morrison.

Our research became this episode of Remarkable Receptions.
