Haley Reading (Group A) -- American Spy, Chapters 25 - 28

In the concluding chapters of American Spy, Wilkinson presents Marie’s experiences, from her trip to Ghana till the time she got to Connecticut, where the incident presented at the opening of novel took place. This incident made Marie return to Martinique with her sons. However, Marie would leave her sons with her mother at Martinique while she goes to America to find and retaliate against Ross.

“I hate that I have to leave you. Going to find Ross, having to do him violence, might take me away from the most revolutionary work I could do,” she says (289).

What are your thoughts on the concluding scenes of American Spy?

The concluding scenes of American Spy are a clear reflection of Marie's feelings and her overall state of mind. Marie discusses in her journal towards the ending the birth of her twin sons and how impactful the experience was on her life. She makes it very apparent that she loves her sons and that there isn't much she wouldn't do for them. Aside from this, however, she makes the decision to leave her sons behind and leave the country once again to retaliate against Ross. This not only shows that Marie's hurt and bitterness towards him still exists, but also that it runs so deep within her that she'd be willing to sacrifice her life and possibly deprive her children of a mother just to get back at Ross.

The concluding scenes of American Spy reveal what is truly making Marie act the way she does. All throughout the book there are many events that show who Marie is, but the concluding events connect her reasons for writing this book to the events that have shaped her into who she is. Marie is sacrificing the role of being the mother of her children and raising them in order to go make the change in the world that she feels she must do. She wants her boys to know that this is her time to make change, and she doesn't want to miss that chance. By telling them all of these events that have happened throughout American Spy, Marie wants to make sure they know the truth. At the end of the day, hopefully this truth will help her boys become better than their mother and father. Marie wants them to know that being the change is very important, and this is the reason why Marie doesn't back down even when she's faced with the hatred she has for Ross. I believe the concluding scenes are a great representation of Marie's feelings and determination throughout the whole book.

In the concluding scenes of American Spy, there is very clear evidence that Marie is still super angry at Ross and will do anything to get revenge on him. She even leaves her two sons behind to leave the country to go find Ross. I think revenge will help her finally be at peace with everything that has happened. It has been extremely clear how much Marie loves her sons. It has also been very clear that she will do anything and everything to keep them safe, no matter if that means going and getting revenge and causing violence.

The concluding scenes of American Spy shows Marie's determination and strong character, which leads to the reasoning behind her writing this book about her experiences. Marie had to sacrifice being a mother in order to fulfill her duties as a spy and to get back at Ross. The birth of her twin sons was a very significant event in her life, and she displays the love she has for her children.

The concluding scenes of American Spy really show just how strong-willed and determined Marie is. She gave birth to her twins and was still stubborn enough to leave them to get revenge. Yet, Marie writing the book itself and all of the triumphs she overcame throughout the story, show just how much Marie cares about her family. She will do anything for the people she loves, and we now know she'll do so much as leave her newly born twins behind to get revenge.

The concluding scenes of American Spy shows how stubborn and determined Marie is. She shows that she loves her sons and you can see the impact they have made on her lives but she still feels as if she needs to retaliate and get revenge on Ross because she is still hurt and bitter towards the situation. In a way it's shocking that she is still holding on to that but it also shows why she was acting the way she acted during the book.

The concluding scenes were powerful. I believe Marie's story was perfectly told in the novel. As an audience, we were able to see her journey, the love she had for her sons, and the sacrifices she made.

The concluding scenes of American Spy shows Marie's true self. Throughout the entire story, Marie has always show how stubborn and determined she was, and it resonated through to the end by her choosing to leave her kids and go after Ross. Even though she leaves her kids, Marie writing in her journal shows just much how she loves them. We have seen that Marie has always struggled with emotional expression but her journal shows how vulnerable she can be, especially towards her kids.

The concluding sentences showed Marie's true determination throughout the whole book. She is willing to leave everything behind to find Ross and get revenge. I think it also shows a bit of vulnerability. We have known throughout the book that Marie cares a lot about the family and does pretty much everything for them. So her letter to her children further emphasized her love for them.

I believe that the concluding scenes in the book really tie it all together. It explains why Marie decided to write this in the first place as well as it shows her true determination to something that she really wants to do. The anger that she still has towards Ross shows why she acts the way she does as well as the determination that she has. Overall, the book was a great read!

The concluding scenes were very empowering and gave me a full circle ending that still left me wanting more. Marie made the most difficult choice a mother would ever have to make in leaving her children for their own safety. It truly shows how strong and selfless she is. Marie throughout the novel has been very walled up emotionally but those walls always seem to come down when it comes to family. I think for me the worst part is the real realization that she wrote this book for her children because she believed she wouldn’t be coming back and wanted to leave them with the why.

The concluding scenes of "American Spy" really reveal what makes Marie such a determined and strong-willed person. I find it very interesting that she was willing to leave her loved ones in order to find and deal with Ross, so it really shows that she is dedicated to her role as a spy, even at the expense of her relationships with others. I love how this book shows the sacrifices people make in life in order to fight for what they believe in, and these concluding scenes really solidified this theme.

The concluding scenes shows Marie’s strong will and determination. She was willing to leave her kids just to find Ross to seek revenge. Her journal expresses how much she truly loves her children so her leaving them in order to seek revenge shows her true character and how strong willed she actually is.

The concluding scenes of American Spy were very sobering. Even though Marie wants to stay home and continue to take care of her kids, she knows that the has to leave them so she can kill Ross. I want to be upset with her but I know (and she knows) that if she doesn't kill Ross now, both her and her kids will be at risk of being killed.

The concluding scenes of the book show how strong Marie is and how willing she is to do what she needs. I believe Marie's story was written in beautifully in the novel. As a reader of the book we were able to see her progress and willpower, the sacrifices she endured and the love for her boys.

The concluding scenes of American Spy show me that once Marie sets her mind to something, she will accomplish it. Though she loves her sons dearly, she still feels the strong need to go out and retaliate against Ross because she feels it's the right thing to do. Throughout the book, Marie has been shaped into a strong-minded person, and the end reinforces that this is who she is and nothing will change that.

The concluding scenes of American Spy show not only Marie’s natural inclination to finish what she started, no matter the costs. Considering she had her twins and was still willing to track down this lead to get revenge on Ross is monumental as far as her character is concerned. Marie has been an amazing woman to follow through the course of this novel, her morals have stood true and her idea of justice has consistently been served.

The concluding chapters felt somber and realistic. Marie has gone through a lot in this story and suffered a great deal, and while she could have stepped away and pretend nothing happened, her sense of responsibility and duty drive her forward. Despite the hardships she is still a strong person and knows what she must do, or what she must sacrifice

The concluding chapters of American Spy felt awe inspiring. Marie went through so much suffering but to see her stand by her own ideals was amazing. I couldn't help but feel a massive sense of respect towards her. Also to see the love and determination she puts towards her boys is beautiful.

I found the last couple chapters of the book very interesting. Marie finally presents the reason why she must write to her boys. This showed a more sensitive light on Marie as a person. She finally found something that forces her to show her emotions and blow her spy cover. It gives meaning to the entire novel; book is a set of guidelines and lessons to raise the boys and let them know what is instilled within them. Marieb did a great job of raising them without being able to physically be there. She offered them more than many parents can. The boys were the only real part of her life and it shows she is not heartless as she was able to sacrifice her reality for a chance of her boys surviving.

Thes last chapters were not what I was expecting coming from all the other endings that I read. For the author to show us her feelings evolve and highlight that the light of her life were her sons was amazing. Having seen this I would've thought that she would run with them and her mother. At least hide them better, but she was overrun again by her bitterness towards Ross that she was willing to leave the two people she loved most in the world and possibly die in the process was shocking.

In the concluding chapters, what I really found to stick with me was Marie's lasting personal relationships with Robbie and Agathe. Her life in this moment was really vulnerable, and having those two people around to help her out really shapes her in the end. I think writing out her experiences for William and Tommy is sort of sad though. She's writing it in the mindset that she will be gone by the time they learn of all this, which isn't fun to think about.
