When Dometi Pongo and Ta-Nehisi Coates met at SIUE

On March 23, 2011, our university hosted a visit from journalist named Ta-Nehisi Coates. Before his main presentation, I organized some time for Coates to meet with a group of my students.

Dometi Pongo was one of the students that Coates met with that day. I was fortunate enough to snap a photo during their interaction.

Coates of course went on to publish "The Case for Reparations," Between the World and Me, and Black Panther #1. And Pongo has done quite well too. He's a journalist for MTV, and he's currently hosting a television show, The Exhibit.

Awesome! We sent my son snd bonus sons and daughters to Black Heritage Summer Camp. Our Black nationalist friends sent their children too. We still have a photo of Ta-Nehisi and Rael Jackson at about 13-years-old, and we know Dometi through his association with Third World Press and the Institute of Positive Education here in Chicago and his visits to our arts & culture venue here in Chicago. I love this photo. We are www.RealMenCharitiesInc.org abd my son runs it and our venue more and more everyday.
