The Black Book

The Black Book contains photographs, illustrations, maps, recipes, newspaper clippings, short writings by and about black people, lists, sheet music, and many more items. In other words, The Black Book is a scrapbook.

Among other features, the book's inclusion of excerpts from poems by Langston Hughes, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Henry Dumas drew my interest. The blend of poems and photographs has certainly inspired aspects of my own approaches to presenting literary art. The inclusion of poetry in The Black Book provided another view of how African American verse was used in unconventional ways during the black arts era.
