Black World featuring Gwendolyn Brooks on the cover (Sept. 1972)
This issue of Black World magazine features a drawing of Gwendolyn Brooks on the cover and the announcement that the periodical contained an excerpt from her autobiography. Black World presented its annual special on poetry each September, and Brooks was the headliner for the 1972 issue. Although the black arts era is often characterized as a movement by and for "new" writers, elder writers like Brooks, Dudley Randall, Margaret Walker, and others enjoyed renewed interest during the 1960s and 1970s as well.
