Highlighting Haiti's Cultural History

Yesterday, my colleague Aminata Cairo and, our always reliable G.A., Adrienne Smith presented a small, mixed media display as part of the larger SIUE 4Haiti Teach in. The “teach in” was organized by Denise DeGarmo, who’s always out there out front when it comes to progressive responses to tough challenges.

The presentation, “Highlighting Cultural History, Addressing Troubling Myths” that Adrienne, Professor Cairo, and I came up with sought to provide audiences with information about Haiti that might counter some of the more pervasive negative ideas about the country. We also wanted to provide a variety of images of Haiti and Haitians before the earthquake.

The video below provides an excerpt of one of the videos we produced.
