Why did Dometi Pongo's visit matter to you?

I asked students what they found useful or important about Dometi Pongo's visit, or why the time with him matter to them. Here are some of their responses.

• "This was probably the best event I've attended on campus because of the environment and how attentive Pongo was to everyone who attended. A lot of what he said resonated with me and I've kept them in mind since." -J.B.

• "One thing that I found extremely notable of Pongo's presentation Q & A was his ability to connect with people of all types. Regardless of if it was a student or a professor Pongo was able to make his responses relatable." -A. S.

• “One of the things [Pongo] said was to find someone who believes more in you than you believe in yourself. This was really impactful to me because I haven’t been feeling confident in myself thinking about applying for PhD programs.” –M.M.

“I felt like Pongo gave us a raw experience into seeing how he got to where he is now in his life and I feel like everything he believed in and all the advice he made can be easily transferable for anyone that has a dream.” -J. L.
• "I found the advice he provided about navigating a creative career especially important given my interests in screenwriting and production.” –N. D.

• "In his presentation, Pongo mentioned that after college he started working but after one year, he quit. Pongo quitting didn't mean he gave up on himself, it shows that everyone has had some struggles to success." —M.L.

• "One thing I took away from the discussion with Pongo was that it is important to step away sometimes and recenter yourself so that your work doesn't consume you negatively." -M.S.

• “The event was just such a vibe. I laughed a lot. I learned a lot. I honestly felt really happy and empowered afterward.” –M. M.

• "Dometi Pongo is intelligent, charismatic, and is confident in himself and his art. Truly a testament of hard work and dedication. Plus, he has swag." -A. S.
