• November: John Keene wins National Book Award for Poetry. 
• September: Marilyn Nelson wins Wallace Stevens Award. 
• September: Jericho Brown wins an Academy of American Poets Fellowship. 
• September: 11 poets, including Rita Dove, Nikki Giovanni, Angela Jackson, Haki Madhubuti, and Sonia Sanchez, receive Ruth Poetry Prizes.
• September: Ariana Benson wins the Cave Canem Poetry Prize.
• September: Diamond Forde and Alan Pelaez Lopez earn Ruth Lilly & Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellows. 
• April: Sonia Sanchez wins the Jackson Poetry Prize.
• April: Yona Harvey wins Guggenheim Fellowship.
