Richard Wright's infamous review

For this episode of our podcast Remarkable Receptions, I decided to discuss a popular and sometimes misunderstood review. Here's how I open:
In October 1937, an aspiring, 29-year-old writer wrote a negative assessment of a recently published novel. At the time, the unfavorable review gained little notice. But later, the author of the novel and that particular reviewer became two of our most well-known black authors. As a result, that minor unfavorable assessment became one of the most infamous reviews in African American literary history.
