Haley Reading Group: Black Panther

 [Haley Reading groups Fall 2020]

Ok, we've worked our way through the first trade paperback of Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet Book One written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and drawn by Brian Stelfreeze. In addition to the first four issues of Coates's run on the comic book, it also included the Fantastic Four #52 issue that showed T'Challa's first appearance in the Marvel Universe.

After reading Black Panther this semester, what did you enjoy or find most rewarding about reading the book?

And, what did you view as a challenge concerning the reading experience?

What i found most rewarding about reading this comic was the new experience of actually reading a comic for the first time. It was also rewarding seeing the future of the superhero. I also think its cool to discuss my feelings about the comic with others, since we have a physical copy of it.

What I found most rewarding from reading the Black Panther book was my first experience in reading a comic book which focuses more on the aspect of a superhero while blending in some aspects of reality. A major challenge I faced while reading this book was having to quickly identify the transitions between different topics and subject matters, without having to reread a few previous pages.

What I found most rewarding was that I actually enjoyed the storyline of the book. I feel like I could relate to Marie being that I am a black woman and we go through similar struggles. On the other hand, I don't really think anything about the book was least rewarding for me.

I feel as though the most rewarding part of reading this comic is that one, it is the first comic that I have ever read and two, I got to see more in-depth the storyline of one of my favorite superheroes. I feel like in a comic you have more time to pay attention to the background rather than in a movie and seeing all the small details helps add up to the bigger picture.

The most rewarding part of reading this comic for me was seeing how the story developed and how relatable the characters were even though they're made up. This is also the first comic that I've ever read. There were not really any parts that were challenging to read.

The thing I found the most rewarding was experience a genre style of literature since this was my first time reading a comic book and seeing how the story progresses base on all that has happen to Wakanda and T'Challa. What I found as a challenge was trying to understand the concepts at time because I would have to reread the passages over again.

What I found rewarding from this reading is that I had got to experience the book and the movie . I really enjoyed both works of art and seeing how the characters developed over the time of the book. This was my first comic reading , it wasn't any challenges in the book

This was the first comic book I have read , it was very enjoyable and I also liked the movie . The most rewarding part of the book was watching the characters develop in the story and see the plot thicken . I enjoyed the book and I had no challenges with it.

I found the art style the most rewarding. The vibrant colors and the effects that you see in this comic book aren't something that you would see in most comics. I would say that this frozen, page turning comic would be better than some animated films. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and experiencing the art work.

The thing I found most rewarding was I got to read my first comic. I’ve always wanted to read one but never got around to it. I really liked the experience of the visuals to go along with. It was also really interesting to see a different the Black Panther in a way different from the Marvel film.

This is the first comic book that I have analyzed, and I must it was very enjoyable. The most rewarding part of the book was watching how each and every character grew and developed their characteristics. The comic made and effort to display an environment that truly represented Wakanda, and I think that was accomplished. There was no challenges with reading and understanding the book.

This is the first time that I have ever read a comic book. The thing I enjoyed most about this book was the fact that it didn’t only focus on the main character, other characters were not only involved but they also got a spotlight in the book and we got to see them grow and develop and get attached to some of the characters. I didn’t find anything challenging

The most rewarding thing from this book for me was the experience of reading a comicbook, which is something I've never done before. I did not find anything challenging to read or comprehend in the story.

I enjoyed this comic book. I have never really read comics before, and I enjoyed the pictures and how much they brought to the story. Sometimes it was challenging to understand what was happening because it seemed like there was no context, however after rereading a couple times I finally understood what was happening and it was very interesting.

I enjoyed finding time to read, even if it was a comic book. Having such a busy schedule and balancing work and school I enjoyed being able to sit down for a moment and actually being able to read something that I found fun and entertaining.

What I found most rewarding after reading this was the fact that I enjoyed it. This was one of the fist comic books I have read all the way through because I usually don't find comic books all that interesting. However, this comic book has definitely changed my perspective.
