Haley Reading Group: Black Panther, Chapter 3

[Haley Reading groups Fall 2020]

There's quite a bit of setup in the third chapter of Black Panther. We see the main villain Tetu preparing himself. We listen in on a conversation between T'Challa (Black Panther) and his step mother. We see the Ayo and Aneka deciding that they must increase their numbers if they are  to confront challenges, and we see Shuri, still in the Plane of Wakandan Memory, learning from a wise griot.

Toward the end of the issue, there is a dramatic action sequence as T'Challa battles with Tetu and Zenzi. T'Challa defeats Zenzi and her group, but not Tetu, who comes to her rescue and warns T'Challa that "the era of kings shall end."

At the same time, Aneka, Ayo, and other Dora Milaje take a stand against Lord Mandla and his forces. The issue closes before we see the final confrontation, but we see the defiant words: "The Dora Milaje are never scared."

Which storyline did you find most interesting and why?

I believe Marie is considering this opportunity because of the way she was treated as a spy when she was working for the U.S government. She wasn't taken seriously, and she was not respected due to her gender and likely race. This is her chance to really prove herself and her abilities. She knows more than language, has lived in. multiple places around the world, and she took down an intruder in her home. She is an asset to any spy agency.

The story line that is most interesting to me is Ayo and Aneka growing their numbers of soldiers to continue their mission. This was most interesting to me because in the begging of the chapter it was only a few and towards the end you see that number has risen. I believe that with them growing their numbers they can actually bring more peace to Wakanda but also make another conflict with the Black Panther.

The storyline I found more interesting is the one between T'Challa and Tetu. I find it interesting by what Tetu says referring to T'Challa's absence in Wakanda and how he reacted to those things. And when he said "... the era of kings shall end.", it had me thinking. I was thinking maybe Wakanda should not have a king but a regular democracy of the people choose how they live, not one person choosing how all of them should live.

The storyline I found most interesting is the conflict between T'Challa and Tetu. I found this the most interesting, because I could understand where Tetu was coming from, even though he is the main antagonist. Deep down all he wants is for Wakanda to return back to how it was when he was growing up, which was a very strong nation. I feel that neither him or T'Challa really have bad intentions for Wakanda.

The storyline that was interesting to me is how Ayo and Aneka were building up the soldiers to carry on with their mission. It was very interesting to see things unfold , in the chapter the number of people rise . With strength in numbers they can fix Wakanda and make it more peaceful.

This novel has its twist and turns and its interesting. the idea of Marie being groomed to work for the military company did not come as a surprise to me but again it kind of seemed too good to be true at first. I feel like it happens too often which is unfortunate. However the fact that Ross and Daniel use her to benefit themselves does not sit well with me. Especially to the extend of using Helen as bait so Marie can fall for it.

Between these two story lines I found the one between T'Challa, Tetu and Zenzi more interesting. I found it interesting because I'm curious as to what the true goal of Tetu and Zenzi is. Tetu says that Wakanda will be ruled by the Wakandians meaning the people of Wakanda. But I have the feeling that Tetu and Zenzi just want to take the throne away from T'Challa and rule over Wakanda by themselves. If they really wanted a democratic like system in Wakanda, why couldn't they just communicate with their king instead of starting a whole rebellion? Especially when Wakanda knows that America is run like that.

The relationship that I find most interesting in this chapter is the relationship between Ayo and Aneka. I think it is my favorite because you can visually see the change. At the start of the comic, they are not even with each other. As the story plays out they are eventually reunited and now they wish to expand even further. You can see the drive that they have inside them being physically shown. They want good and will do whatever it takes to get it.

The story line that I found most interesting is the story of Ayo and Aneka deciding that they must increase their numbers in order to be able to overcome and win more wars and challenges.

I found this interesting because it is really important to have more people in the form of a stronghold to be able to win and protect their kingdom. This would help increase their chances of success.

I find the story line about tetu and how the wakandan people have stopped getting on their knees and praying to the spirits the most interesting because it shows how when everything starts to go bad everyone has stopped praying to the spirits. He also tells t’challa that there will no longer be anymore kings and Wakanda will be controlled strictly by the Wakandan people.

I found the interaction between T'Challa and Tetu interesting. It showed how fractured Wakanda really was. We are shown two perceptions of T'Challa's rule, one positive and one negative, and they both are very understandable.

The storyline tha was most intersting to me was Ayo's. They focused on building up a team in order to have a higher chance of achievin their goal and winning more battles more efficienctly.

I found this interesting because often times you see super heroes wanting do to everything alone like T'Challa. So seeing this new apporoach is interesting and refreshing.

The storyline I found most interesting was the battle between T'challa and Tetu. Tetu tells T'challa that he remembers the old ways without a king. Even though T'challa is a great leader for his people and by no means malicious there will still be people in Wakanda who don't to follow the rule of the king, and instead want to govern themselves.

I think the most interesting storyline is the one that includes Ayo and Aneka. They want their numbers to rise so that they can continue their agenda and try and bring peace to Wakanda. If their numbers grow enough I believe they can achieve what they set out to do.

The storyline that I find more interesting is the one in which Tchalla faced off against Zenzi and Tetu. The Black Panther and his war dogs defeat Zenzi and her group without too much of a problem. Then, the powerful Zenzi appears and defeats the Black Panther while his allies are overcome by the power of the past.

The most interesting storyline I found was the face-off between T’Challa and Zenzi and Tetu. It’s most interesting because it almost feels like their fighting against each other with the same motive. Because they both want restoration to their country, the storyline makes the antagonist just as understandable as the protagonist.

King T’Challa battling Tetu and Zenzi is a more interesting storyline. We don’t really know a lot about Tetu, just that he is very powerful and is trying to end the era of kings. He was able to defeat T’Challa but he didn’t kill him, setting us up for another battle in the next chapter. Hopefully at the end of the story we can get a good conclusion.

The storyline I found most interesting was the one between the black panther and Tetu. This was because the rising conflict between them really helps build on the story and for a second the reader reflects on both sides and really could understand where Tetu was coming from honestly.

The storyline that I found most interesting was when Shuri was in the Plane of Wakanda Memory learning from a wise griot. I found this interesting because of the lesson that the wise griot was teaching her. The fact that she has forgotten the old ways and lost her soul is intriguing. I also enjoyed the artwork of this scene. I thought that this enhanced the story.
