Reading Poetry and Illustrated Narratives with Black Boys
I've benefited by corresponding with diverse groups of people about African American literary and visual arts over the years. It's my strong belief that participating in such conversations carries intellectual and cultural significance.
Accordingly, this fall, a couple of my colleagues and I will continue coordinating an arts and correspondence program for several high school black boys. The participants will receive free books and opportunities to receive and share responses to writings about volumes of poetry and illustrated books.

Great idea! I'm always trying to figure out how best to engage these young men.
