The Lessie Bates Neighborhood House Preservation Project

This semester,  we began an extensive technological and preservation project related to the Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House, a comprehensive social services organization based in East St. Louis. Through a grant that we earned from the Meridian Society, my graduate assistant Jeremiah Carter and I are organizing,  scanning, researching, and writing about over 1,000 photographs from the Neighborhood House’s special collection. The photographs were taken between the 1910s and late 1990s.

The project is associated with my duties as coordinator of the East St. Louis Action Research Project, a component of SIUE's Institute for Urban Research.
