Poetry magazine, the Poetry Foundation site & the future

Moving forward, the Poetry Foundation site will remain one of our vital online resources. For a few years now, we've been linking to poems and consulting biographical sketches on the site. In the near future, we'll continue making use of the broad body of information and materials available there.

Poetry magazine, published by the Poetry Foundation, celebrated its 100th year in 2012. During the course of a century, the publication served as a notable publishing venue in African American literary history. In addition to publishing several poems by Langston Hughes, Poetry served as the initial site of publication for two of our most well-known poems, "For My People" by Margaret Walker and "We Real Cool"  by Gwendolyn Brooks.

Among other features, we'll certainly continuing making use of the recordings of poets reading their works that are available on the Poetry Foundation site. Last year, we compiled a collection of 20 poems on the site that contain  audio. The site also presents an extensive searchable database as well as the archive of Poetry since 1912. 

Despite all the talk about digital humanities in the field of literature, there has been relatively little scholarship on African American poetry and technology. Over the next year or so, maybe we can do more to talk about how the Poetry Foundation, Poets.org, and other online resources enhance the activities and work that we do related to poetry.
