Audio Recordings of African American Poets

Students listening to audio recordings of poets
Audio recordings of African American poets reading their works have been integral to our program's public humanities projects as well as our use of technology to enhance engagements with black studies.

We have regularly shared recordings of Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka, Gwendolyn Brooks, Nikki Giovanni, Robert Hayden, Langston Hughes, and Margaret Walker. The recordings have made it possible for us to put contemporary readers in touch with the sounds of historically significant  poets. Our listening devices have been key to our ability to share so much poetry with such large numbers of listeners over the years.
