Limited publishing and media outlets suggest that there are relatively few publications and television programs that provide African Americans with platforms to voice our concerns on our own terms. The limited outlets also mean that there are an inadequate number of opportunities for reading, studying, and witnessing the presentation and circulation of black ideas. On a majority white college campus, limited publishing and media outlets help to ensure the underrepresentation, not to mention instances of symbolic annihilation, of African American intellectual interests. --A.
