East St. Louis Action Research Project activities

The following programs and activities relate to my efforts as Coordinator of the East St. Louis Action Research Project.

Nov. 13: The Big Smoke exhibit (22 attendees) [SIUE Lovejoy Library]
Organized mixed media exhibit focusing on poetry and rap for collegiate black men using audio devices.

Nov. 10: Arts activities at Venice Elementary School  (40 attendees) [Venice Elementary School]
Organized mixed media exhibit and collage activity using audio devices.

Nov. 6East St. Louis Vision Boards activity (15 attendees) [SIUE/East St. Louis Charter High School]
Organized collage activity concentrating on East St. Louis places and people.

Nov. 4: Public Thinking Event (150 attendees) [SIUE Lovejoy Library] 
Organized interaction and learning activities among students, which focused on East St. Louis.

Oct. 30: The Big Smoke exhibit (25 attendees) [SIUE Lovejoy Library]
Organized exhibit focusing on poetry for collegiate black men including activities related to East St. Louis.

Oct. 28: Public Thinking Event: East St. Louis (180 attendees) [SIUE Morris University Center (MUC)]
Organized interaction and learning activities among students, which focused on East St. Louis.

Oct. 20: Gina Washington, Leadership, Inspiration & Collegiate Black Women (20 attendees) [SIUE Student Success Center]
Organized question and answer session about leadership for collegiate black women with SIUE/East St. Louis Charter School director.

Oct. 16: Chess & GRIT (15 attendees) [SIUE/East St. Louis Charter High School] Organized a chess playing activity for students at the Charter School.

Oct. 1: Tribute to Maya Angelou: Photographs from the Eugene B. Redmond Collection (45 attendees) (SIUE Lovejoy Library)
Organized photographic exhibit featuring the work of East St. Louis poet and cultural organizer Eugene B. Redmond

Sept. 30: Public Thinking Event - Maya Angelou exhibit (150 attendees) [SIUE MUC] 
Organized photographic exhibit featuring the work of East St. Louis poet and cultural organizer Eugene B. Redmond

Sept. 25: The Big Smoke exhibit  (35 attendees) [SIUE Lovejoy Library]
Organized exhibit focusing on poetry for collegiate black men. We included activities related to East St. Louis.

Sept. 17: Public Thinking Event: East St. Louis (150 attendees) [SIUE MUC]
Organized interaction and learning activities among students, which focused on East St. Louis.

Sept. 11: Poetry Listening Session (35 attendees) [SIUE Underground Reading Room, Lovejoy Library]
Organized mixed media poetry exhibit. We used audio devices.

Sept. 10: African American Literary Showcase (45 attendees) [SIUE Lovejoy Library]
Co-organized exhibit focusing on African American Literary Studies at SIUE. Some of the panels concentrated on East St. Louis.

Sept. 2: Public Thinking Event (150 attendees) [SIUE MUC]
Organized interaction and learning activities among students; some panels focused on East St. Louis.
