The Interactive Reading Group

A week or so ago, we started our "Interactive Reading Group," a program that involves about 30 collegiate black men in a series of reading, composition, and correspondence activities.

The participants in the program will read and discuss African American illustrated narratives (comic strips) primarily using a blog and email. Overall, this program provides us with a space to develop our skills exchanging ideas about a diverse range of topics and concepts such as race, visual rhetoric, literacy, satire, U.S. politics, and American history.

This is our second year of the program. So the plan this year is to make sure more of the participants are actively involved, and we'll want to figure out how we can produce a few public projects based on what we're learning as we read and discuss the materials. We'll keep you posted.
