Early on in the planning stages of our podcast project
Remarkable Receptions, I knew I wanted to recruit Ebony Lumumba to contribute. We've known each other for years now, and I knew she was an advocate for Mississippi writers.
For her first contribution to the project, Lumumba provided a script about Jesmyn Ward's award-winning novel
Sing, Unburied, Sing (2017). Lumumba explains that the episode "tells the story of family, loss, and the possibility of redemption bound up in an author deliberately framing the perils of systemic racism in the South within the lives and bodies it targets most."
