The thought of people being afraid of the eclipses centuries ago is intriguing. This supports the thought of people being more knowledgeable about what occurs on the earth. Now with the knowledge of the eclipse, people are calm instead of seeing this thing as a sign of doom. The overall knowledge of events in nature have caused people to react more calmly by events in nature versus the many centuries ago.Louis Stithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10243503077789080602noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-595859379914711075.post-35124977041926613662019-12-10T11:22:41.861-06:002019-12-10T11:22:41.861-06:00A word i would use from this article would probabl...A word i would use from this article would probably disenchanting. That is the feeling I got from the author while reading the article. She went on about how she wanted the excitement and fear of not knowing everything about the eclipse and what is what going to look like. Its important because I think many americans feel disenchanted about their lives now and are seeking dangerous thrills because of it.

Mara Bracken Mara Brackenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11289725862970112834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-595859379914711075.post-54796476241644384552019-12-08T17:22:50.075-06:002019-12-08T17:22:50.075-06:00My quote comes from page 245, "Already I know...My quote comes from page 245, "Already I know too much". From day to day, the news reports of constant divide between the various peoples and cultures of America. But it appears that when a solar eclipse comes, we become one people, united in viewing it, partying to celebrate it and holding discussions about it! Work stops, school stops, everything seems to stop and for just a moment everyone is on the same sheet of music...everyone sees this one event the same. How amazing and wonderful it would be if we, as Americans, could be unified in solving the many issues that plague us as a nation; as we are unified in events such as a total eclipse, Super Bowl Sunday, the World Series, Thanksgiving and Christmas. As Felts writes (pg 246), “an eclipse is also the surest of things. No alarms, no surprises” . Life is so unpredictable and unity is easy for America, for a mere 2 minutes or less.

-Miles W.Miles W.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00132170892387080870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-595859379914711075.post-69401740173560721402019-11-29T17:18:18.191-06:002019-11-29T17:18:18.191-06:00I would say that the word, "perspective"...I would say that the word, "perspective" came to mind from this reading. I say this because of the statement made that "centuries ago, a total eclipse was cause for panic, a sign of doom - or a moment of great discovery," and then today, it's just another event where people can plan viewing parties for it and vendors make money off it buy selling glasses or souvenirs. With information found, the mystery and wonder of these types of phenomenons has diminished. Everyone can look up within a minute everything they need to know about an eclipse, where to purchase glasses, where are the best places to watch it, where is everyone else watching it, etc. A lot of the amazement and awe has been taken away from some of the most fascinating events that happen.

- Marcus B.Marcus B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/01130286059320334822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-595859379914711075.post-38368556998056041132019-11-28T02:12:04.321-06:002019-11-28T02:12:04.321-06:00Sentimental. I say this because of her final question, "how did you and you and you experience the eclipse?" And I do remember this day, my entire school had the day scheduled around it, it was amazing. We went to the football field, got the cool glasses, listened to music and hung out until it happened. We watched the shadows dance across the ground and felt the temperature drop. When it finally reached the point of total eclipse, it was a sight to see, to make it better, the were storm clouds on the opposite side of the sky, lighting and all. This word to me means something amazing. The alignment of our solar system in a particular way to cause an eclipse is amazing, it is quite literally out of this world. The author often talks about the sense of "awe" one can feel from seeing an eclipse. That awe is very extra-terrestrial as well.
