Black Studies Book Giveaway: [CLOSED]

Friends, readers, black studies comrades....this giveaway is just for you!

As part of our spring 2012 black studies book fair, we're hosting a book giveaway for Alondra Nelson's Body And Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight Against Medical Discrimination. In her book, Nelson, associate professor of sociology at Columbia University and founder of afrofuturism, concentrates on the histories of health, science, and activism that informed the Black Panther Party's efforts to confront "medical discrimination in the healthcare system, in biomedical theories, and in research design" (xi). As Nelson notes, "Body and Soul is an exploration of why and how health issues, broadly understood, came to be an indispensable element of the Party's politics" (5).

Readers interested in black studies, African American health activism, or the history of involvement with science and technology by grassroots organizations will find Nelson's book informative and enjoyable.
