Hayes is no doubt one on...Thanks for the comment. <br /><br />Hayes is no doubt one on the cutting edge. Unfortunately, I don't think the field has opened up to his kind of writing as much. That is, I think the *contemporary,* innovative style of writing receives less play than say the historical poems of Elizabeth Alexander, Kevin Young, Rita Dove, and the expansive body of slavery poems by dozens of poets over the last 10 years.<br /><br />Some of that is a problem. But I must admit that I do like both--Hayes's work as well as the aforementioned works. I just see more resources from the academy dedicated to historical works (an area Hayes dealt with quite a bit in his earlier volumes).H.
