Supporting the Community

One of the "rewards of intellectual activity" statements from the politically inspiring black women project:
Being involved in academia has allowed me to do 2 major things: bring (academic} resources into my community and give visibility to my community. I chose anthropology because it is the study that presents people's stories. I want my people to tell their own stories and be heard. Anthropology has helped me to make that happen.—Aminata Cairo, anthropology professor and community organizer
